5 Tips to Develop Your Personal Style

You have an image in your head of what you’d like to look like, but it can be tough to get there. Between work, friends, family, and that pesky little thing called sleep, who has time to think about fashion? Fortunately, by following some simple tips, you can make your own personal style shine through with minimal effort. Here are 5 tips to develop your personal style so you can look the way you want at any time of day or night!

1) Get Comfortable

A really important aspect of developing your personal style is figuring out what you’re comfortable in. Now, I’m not just talking about clothes here. I mean the whole shebang. The way you look, how you present yourself and even how you walk can affect your image and other people’s opinion of you. So, it’s a good idea to be mindful of these things. But again, this isn’t something that happens overnight.

It takes time and experimentation with different things (clothes, accessories, etc) until you find what works for you. It also helps if you start paying attention to those around you- their outfits are a great place to start! Take note of what they wear on a daily basis or where they take pride in their appearance and maybe adopt some elements from them into your own wardrobe as well.

And don’t forget, dressing up doesn’t always have to mean an evening gown or tuxedo; think outside the box! Try wearing something you would normally never wear, like an animal print blouse paired with dark denim jeans. You may end up surprising yourself and liking it more than you thought. When in doubt, ask someone else for advice. If you feel confident enough, experiment with a few new pieces every day until you find what fits best. If all else fails, stay true to your basics: What feels most natural? What makes you feel most confident? It may seem difficult at first but after time and practice you’ll see how much fun it can be!

2) Be Authentic

Personal style is about being who you are and expressing yourself. Keep these five pointers in mind to develop your own personal style:

  1. Invest time and energy into getting know the person you want to be. What do they love? What makes them happy? Where do they go for inspiration? Do they like contemporary or vintage-inspired styles? Think about the things that are most important to this person so that you can start developing your look from there.
  2.  Be mindful of your body type, but don’t let it dictate what you wear. As a general rule, stick with clothes that fit well and make you feel comfortable (whether it’s a pair of jeans or an evening gown).
  3.  Don’t stress out over trends – instead, choose pieces that speak to you on an emotional level and will stand the test of time.
  4. Wear what feels good – not necessarily what looks good on others! And finally,
  5.  Be courageous with color! No matter what the current trend may be, always opt for colors that reflect your personality. You’ll look polished and stylish without having to worry about finding the right thing. 3) Choose Pieces that Make You Feel Good

Embrace what you love and feel good in! These are my 5 tips on how I develop my personal style. Select pieces that make you feel good. If a particular outfit doesn’t feel good, think about why it doesn’t and try something else. Don’t be afraid to mix high end with low end as long as the styling is on point. Buy classic pieces that can be worn many different ways: skinny jeans, dresses, etc.

Accessories are key so invest in some quality shoes and bags. Have fun with colors! Mix neutrals with bright colors for an eclectic look. The last tip is my favorite–wear what makes you happy! Be bold, expressive, and have fun with your style. Wear what makes you feel confident and comfortable in order to wear your best self! There’s no need to force yourself into any type of clothing or accessory if it isn’t working for you.

It’s all about having fun and expressing yourself through your wardrobe choices. You’ll find that dressing up will help boost your mood during stressful times and finding the perfect pair of heels will make you want to go out dancing. Remember that wearing clothes should bring joy not dread. That feeling when you get dressed up? You’re already looking fabulous even before you’ve left the house! No wonder there’s such a large market for fashion these days.

Plus, remember that you don’t have to spend hours agonizing over what to wear every day (unless you want to). Take time getting ready once or twice a week and play around with your makeup skills. Get creative and put together outfits from your closet; the more combinations you try, the more familiar everything becomes.

4) Ask Friends for Help

Style is more than just what you wear, but that’s a good place to start. Ask your friends and family members for input on your personal style. Make a list of the things you love, not just the clothing items but anything from movies, books or even hobbies. Once you have these details together, it will be easier to create outfits based on your interests.

Try New Things: We all know that feeling when we’ve worn the same outfit twice in one week because we’re unsure what else looks good with our other clothes.

5) Don’t Judge Yourself

Just because you’re shopping for a new wardrobe doesn’t mean you have to spend a lot of money. Start small and work your way up with the goal of becoming confident in your own style. Ask yourself these questions:

– What kind of person do I want to be?

– What are my personal interests?

– What colors best represent me?

– What adjectives would someone use to describe me?

– What words or phrases come to mind when thinking about myself?

– How would I describe my personality through clothes, makeup, jewelry, hairstyle, etc.?

The more you ask yourself these types of questions, the easier it will be to develop your own sense of personal style. For example, if you like colorful clothing and pastels, but hate bold patterns and bright reds, then narrow down what is acceptable to you by answering these questions: What colors make me feel good? What colors make me feel energized? Which colors should I avoid wearing altogether? Answer those questions, then find things that match!

– If you love flashy pieces but also want to fit in at corporate meetings, mix them with more subdued pieces such as a dress shirt.
