Once upon a time, businesspeople used to go to offices, sit in cubicles, and get paid by the hour or by the project. However, things have changed quite a bit since then. Nowadays, people work from home, coffee shops, coworking spaces, and even from their smartphones while traveling all over the world—and they can still be highly productive! If you’re struggling to make progress on your latest projects, follow these seven business tips to help you boost your productivity and be more effective at work.
1) Focus on the end goal
Business owners are constantly on the go. But that doesn’t mean they don’t need to find time for self-care. If you’re constantly busy, it’s important to know when it’s time to give yourself a break. Self-care is not only good for your mental health but also your business’ bottom line. Here are 7 ways you can stay more productive as a small business owner
1) Create a to do list: Decide what tasks need to be done before others and try and complete them in order of importance.
2) Start with what needs to be done first: It can be tempting to start with something easy or fun, but the reality is that this approach often leads people astray from their goals.
3) Break larger projects into smaller tasks: A project might seem daunting, but if you divide it into manageable chunks, then it becomes easier to tackle.
4) Take short breaks during long periods of work: Having a short break can help recharge your batteries and make sure you’re getting the most out of your day.
5) Ask for help if needed: Sometimes we don’t realize how much help we need until we ask someone else for input or assistance.
6) Write down thoughts and ideas as they come to you: There will always be times where our minds are buzzing with ideas but there isn’t enough time to explore all of them. That’s why it’s so important to write things down when the thought comes across your mind so that later on you can go back and explore those thoughts without forgetting about them.
7) Plan ahead: Not every decision has an immediate answer, which is why being prepared can save valuable time.
2) Know your strengths
Knowing your strengths and weaknesses will help you become more productive. If you know your strengths, spend more time focusing on those tasks that make you feel the most confident, happy, and fulfilled. At the same time, it’s important to figure out what tasks are weaknesses in order to devote some time there.
With both sides of the coin accounted for, you’ll be able to get much more accomplished with less stress and panic. It also helps when you’re aware of your specific deadlines and personal goals – knowing when things need to be completed is a big part of making sure they happen. Get the full picture: Don’t forget about keeping track of how much time you’re spending on each task, as well as which ones are taking up the most time.
It’s so easy to get caught up in one thing and lose track of everything else – this includes getting distracted by other thoughts or projects during work hours! One way to avoid this is by using a timer to break down larger pieces of work into smaller chunks. For example, if you have an hour-long presentation coming up but don’t want to take the whole hour away from something else that needs attention, set aside 20 minutes at a time to go back and forth between working on both until they’re done.
Treat yourself: When you find yourself feeling frustrated because something doesn’t seem possible no matter how hard you try, give yourself permission not to do it right now. Walk away from the project and focus on something else for a while before coming back to it. More often than not, once you’ve given yourself some space, you’ll come up with new ideas or solutions to tackle your original problem.
3) Be productive, not busy
**1.**Actions speak louder than words, so start by clearly defining your goals and setting expectations with colleagues. Don’t beat around the bush. Say what you mean and stand behind it.
**2.**Get a realistic handle on how much time you have each day by logging your daily activities. Once you know how many hours are available, fill them with work first, then other tasks as needed in order of importance and urgency – starting with the most urgent tasks first when possible.
3. Try not to take phone calls during high-priority times; set aside a specific time for returning phone calls and messages that doesn’t interrupt your more important tasks.
4. When procrastinating, take some small steps toward completing the task rather than avoiding it altogether; even if you don’t complete it, you’ll feel better about yourself because at least you took some action.
5. Focus on completing one project at a time before moving onto another one. 6. Stay focused: remove distractions like social media notifications or cell phones from your office desk and minimize noise sources (close windows, turn off fans). 7. Seek out new challenges: move beyond the routine by tackling something new every few weeks or months (experimenting with different techniques, projects or processes).
4) Declutter your tasks
The following are 5 tips you can use to declutter your tasks and get back on the productivity path.
– Plan Ahead: The more planning you do in advance, the less planning you’ll have to do when it’s time for it all go down. – Checklists: Checking things off can help keep your spirits up and may even be a motivating factor in getting things done. – Lists: Working with lists of what needs to be done is one way of making sure things get done. – Get Organized: Get organized by sorting through piles of papers and such that clutter your space so that work flows smoothly.
– Delegate Responsibility: When delegating responsibility, provide clear instructions on how tasks should be completed and establish a deadline for completion.
– Divide Work into Manageable Chunks: Divide work into manageable chunks by breaking larger projects into smaller steps and focusing on one step at a time. Once this chunk has been completed, move onto the next chunk. It may also be helpful to give yourself deadlines for these chunks if possible.

5) Master time management
This is a topic that comes up often when I work with business owners who are struggling to grow their business. Time management seems like an obvious idea, but we’ve found it takes more than telling people about the importance of it in order to be successful at making changes.
To manage your time, you need a process and routine for getting things done – which means understanding what’s most important and focusing on that first.
Mapping out your day helps you identify where you’re spending your time so you can shift those activities to work on tasks that will have the biggest impact on your goals.
When developing this process, think about what needs to happen next as well as how long each task will take. For example, if you know that following up with a potential client might take 30 minutes, but scheduling meetings typically only takes 10 minutes, schedule the meeting first and then use the remaining 20 minutes for follow-up emails or phone calls. Knowing what you should do next and how long it’ll take frees up your mental energy to focus on doing just that one thing.

1) Get a good night’s sleep: Your brain needs time to rejuvenate so make sure you’re getting the recommended 7-8 hours every night.

3) Eat healthy foods and exercise daily: Be sure to eat well and stay active throughout the day as this will keep your mind sharp as well as give you more energy. Plus, keeping a healthy lifestyle keeps us looking great!

5) Write down all your tasks before bed: After working all day, sometimes it can be hard to remember everything you need to do. Make a list of all the tasks for tomorrow before going to bed so that you have an easier time waking up and getting started.
6) Put away your phone after dinner: The blue light from phones tricks our brains into thinking it’s daytime which can lead to poor sleep quality and difficulty concentrating on tasks. Put away your phone after dinner and try reading instead!
7) Clean up your workspace
A clean workspace helps with creativity, concentration, and efficiency. Take time each day to clear off your desk and make it easy for you to be productive. Get rid of anything that might distract you, so you can focus on what’s important—your work. Make a habit of labeling your bookshelves and file cabinets if they’re not already labeled. Label the drawers in your filing cabinet if they are not also labeled.
Keep labels or stickers visible to avoid confusion when looking for files. The same goes for bookshelves: label them as well so you know where everything is. When deciding whether or not to bring an item into your workspace, ask yourself Does this add value?
If you decide an item does add value, use it sparingly. If you’ve used up all the paperclips and need another one, don’t go buy ten boxes of paperclips because then there will be no space left on your desk for anything else.
Don’t just dump everything on your desk at once – do a little bit at a time instead. Empty your pockets before going home at night; put away your lunchbox before taking out any other food items. Do one task completely before moving onto the next one. For example, organize emails before writing new ones, answer voicemails before checking email messages.
Prioritize tasks that have a deadline – those are most likely urgent, while those without deadlines can wait until later in the week. Try using three different colored sticky notes to mark urgent, immediate, and non-urgent tasks. Once you’ve completed one of these types of tasks, cross it off with a corresponding color marker. Put the red stickies on top because they’re the most important; green for immediate attention and blue for non-urgent tasks.
