This means that if you don’t have a shiny new AMD GPU sitting on your PC, you may need to download a new version of the software if you want to enjoy the best graphics performance you can get from the graphics card.

You don’t have to purchase a new GPU to upgrade to Windows 10 version 1803

Most mainstream graphics cards don’t automatically come with the latest driver software, so it’s likely that the one in your PC is out-of-date.

It’s not just about the quality of the graphics in your games, though.

If you have an AMD GPU, updating the graphics driver to the latest version will also help keep your computer safe.

AMD warns that drivers for its Radeon RX Vega 64 and Radeon RX Vega 56 graphics cards will no longer be readily available after July 1st

WEDNESDAY UPDATE We’ve just had a good chat with a representative from AMD, and he’s promised that users won’t be completely left out in the cold if their hardware is a little outdated.

AMD will make a new driver for ‘vega 64’ and ‘vega 56’ available in the new couple of days, as well as a refresh for ‘VRAM’ support for both the card and its drivers. It’ll also release the VRAM driver for the GCN 1.2 lineup – these are the older Radeon with the GCN 1.1 and 1.2 chipsets – with AMD’s latest software next month.

AMD says the new drivers will fix potential stability issues with its graphics cards, improve performance with some games, and will ensure Windows 10 remains safe to use. Here’s the official statement in full: ‘AMD released the Windows 10 driver 1709 (Version 1607) on February 2, 2017.

‘As of July 1st, the current version of this driver will no longer be provided. This driver addresses AMD’s current-generation Radeon RX Series GPUs including AMD Radeon™ R9 Fury Series (1, 2, and 4-Way Graphics Core Next Compute Units), AMD Radeon™ R9 Nano Series (1, 2, and 4-Way Graphics Core Next Compute Units)

AMD Radeon™ R9 390 Series (1, 2 and 4-Way Graphics Core Next Compute Units), AMD Radeon™ R9 390 Series (1, 2 and 4-Way Graphics Core Next Compute Units), AMD Radeon™ R9 380 Series (1, 2 and 4-Way Graphics Core Next Compute Units) and AMD Radeon™ R7 370 Series (1, 2 and 4-Way Graphics Core Next Compute Units) will no longer be supported by AMD.

‘Due to driver stabilization requirements, AMD will not be issuing any updated driver software for AMD’s Radeon™ graphics cards after July 1st, 2017.

‘The ability to install the latest driver software from AMD will remain available for AMD’s GCN 1.2 and GCN 1.1 series of Graphics Cards and AMD’s WDDM and Vulkan drivers for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.

AMD will, however, be releasing updated driver software in a few days to address the stability issues affecting the Radeon™ R9 Fury series, including the AMD Radeon™ R9 Nano, and will also provide drivers for the AMD Radeon™ R9 390 Series that have the updated WDDM 2.0 driver support.

‘Due to security implications, AMD will not be releasing driver software for AMD’s Radeon™ R9 390 Series graphics card after July 1st, 2017. ‘AMD will also provide updated driver software for AMD’s Radeon™ R9 Nano graphics card with updated AMD’s WDDM 2.0 driver support and newer on a periodic basis to improve stability on Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10.

‘AMD will, however, continue to provide bug fixes and release new drivers for Radeon™ Vega Frontier Edition graphics card which will continue to support Microsoft Windows 10.”
